12 Mei 2015: Juneau Alaska
Arrived in Juneau on a beautiful morning but very cold
outside. Hubby was off, so he decided to go for a run and I would take the bus
to town and meet him in downtown in an hours’ time. He had a fantastic run all
along the shore where mountain and sea meet, says it was amazing, beautiful
with waterfalls cascading down the snow-capped mountains, had to keep his eyes
open for grizzly BEARS Not taxis!!Then we decided we had to use this amazing
weather and got onto the tramway to visit Mount Roberts with spectacular views,
hiking, fun, food, and native arts. You could see forever with the open skies,
the locals say we are very lucky because there are normally low clouds around
or rain. First we had our coffee and cappuccino and then we went on a walking
trail, we hit a very wet, snowy and muddy patch and hubby was not impressed
with me because his running shoes were covered in mud, needless to say that was
the turnaround point of our walk and the decent started back to the viewing
area!! I was very glad when they has
special shoe cleaners in front of the doorways so he could clean his shoes and
get rid of all the mud. Also saw a Bald Eagle close up and at one of the
viewing areas 2 eagles came flying past, hope I see a lot more of them for they
are quite something. Then it was time for our visit to Tracy’s King Crab Shack
THE BEST LEGS IN TOWN!!Had a lovely meal and just loved the crab, we each had a
leg and crab soup and crab cakes maybe we can make another visit just before we
go home, was DELICOUS. Luckily hubby was with me to do the dirty work; I just
got stuck in and feasted. Decided to rather walk back to the ship and enjoy the
weather and scenery. Well we had a fantastic day, and I decided was going to
try and see the Northern Lights after midnight!! Hubby decided the bed was a
better option for someone that is colour blind, so I joined the rest of the
medical team on deck 12 and at first we were too early so then we went looking
for a cup of hot chocolate after being outside in the freezing cold . Then we
were lucky and to the left of the evening star we saw like an opening in the
sky with light green colouring. Don’t really know how to explain it, was not
very bright so think the colours and pictures you see in the books are really 1
in a million but at least I can say I got a glimpse of the northern lights or
should say I stayed up to see the northern lights in Alaska .I was very glad my
hot water bottle(hubby) was lying in bed after being out in the cold. So until
tomorrow, bye
13 Mei 2015: SKAGWAY

geniet.Nou ja tot more.
14 May 2015: Glacier Bay
Today we stay on the ship while we sail into Glacier Bay and
visit the Margery Glassier and a few more, the rivers of ice that are hundreds
of years old. Also watched a few cave-ins and sounded like gun shots just
before the ice falls. This landscapes it quite something different and beautiful,
no man made of anything, just the wildlife, the sea, the mountains and the snow.
Had game ranchers from the area on the ship that talk you through the whole
visit to the area, told us that the seals come into the bay to calve to get
away from the Orca killer whales. They only allow 2 cruise ships in the bay at
a time. I did not see any wildlife so hope we are lucky with our next visit, some
passengers saw the white goats that live on the slopes. Saw a lovely fridge
magnet with a goat in an impossible situation and it said time to
recalculate!!!! Don’t know if he survived the move. Got a gym session in after an
afternoon sleep but must admit was a go slow, I must rather tackle the gym in
the mornings when I am bright eyed and bushy tailed. For dinner we joined the
medical team in the officer’s mesh and had such a good time, for we were about
12 around the table and everyone was in good spirit and had lots of stories to tell,
met some of the other crew, and could not believe all the stories and things
some of the crew get up to!! Had a good laugh. Then it was time for a games
evening in our cabin, so we sat on the floor and played 30 seconds, was great
fun and even had a cup of red wine with one of the security officers, we were
the only 2 who may enjoy alcohol, so I did not say no thank you for this opportunity
even if it came in a paper cup!! Realise how old you are when some of the other
staff could have been your child!!! Or their parents are the same age as we are
anyway another very late night, but had a good day ,so until tomorrow, bye
